HUNTINGTON, W. Va. – The first half went back and forth for 20 minutes, but Marshall University was able to pull away from North Carolina Central University in the second half to win 92-73.
NCCU (3-6) and Marshalll (3-6) traded buckets over an exciting first half with the lead traveling back and forth between both sides. Neither team led by more than five points during the half, with Marshall taking that lead to the break at 46-41.
Jeremiah Ingram (Detroit, Mich.) led the way for the Eagles in the first half with 13 points, and Pat Cole (Newark, N.J.) came off the bench to score 10 points in 11 minutes during his NCCU debut. Ingram finished with a career-high 21 points with seven rebounds, backed by Cole's 15 points and five boards.
In the second half Marshall pulled away by forcing NCCU into 11 turnovers, scoring 22 points from 15 turnovers over the course of the game. The Thundering Herd took a massive amount of three-pointers, making eight of 29 over the game.
Ryan Taylor (Indianapolis, Ind.) put in a game-high 27 points going 10 of 12 on the floor, and Austin Loop (South Webster, Ohio) hit six of 12 three-pointers for 20 points of his own.
