GREENVILLE, S.C. – North Carolina Central traveled to South Carolina looking for their first win of the season, but that will have to wait as Clemson defeats the Eagles, 74-40.
NCCU (0-1) put the first points on the board by way of
Jay Copeland (Suffolk, Va.) but then the Eagles hit a drought and Clemson (1-0) was able to pull away. The Tigers went on a 21-0 run at one point to put them into a commanding 35-9 lead, and went to the break up 38-16.
Dajuan Graf (Charlotte, N.C.) played 35 minutes for NCCU and contributed 11 points, five boards and four assists.
Jeremiah Ingram (Detroit, Mich.) came close to a double-double in the season opener with eight points and eight rebounds as well.
The Tigers rode the performance of Jaron Blossomgame (Alpharetta, Ga.) who led the way with 18 points and four rebounds. Clemson was the taller team and they capitalized on that in the paint with nine blocks as a team and they out-scored the Eagles in points in the paint 28-22. Landry Nnoko (Yaounde, Cameroon) protected the paint with six blocks to lead the Tigers.
The 40 points scored by NCCU is their lowest offensive output since being defeated 81-47 by Memphis on Dec. 15, 2014.
NCCU opens up at home against Allen on Monday, Nov. 16 at 8:00 p.m. inside the newly renovated McDougald-McLendon Arena.
