DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University women's volleyball junior
Kelsey Murphy has been named the NCCU Student-Athlete of the Month for September 2015 in recognition of her outstanding accomplishments on the court and in the classroom.
A native of Rancho Cucamonga, California, Murphy topped NCCU with 178 kills, an average of 3.63 kills per set, and ranked second on the team with 107 digs during 14 matches in the month of September. The 5-10 outside hitter was named to the Elon Phoenix Classic All-Tournament Team (Sept. 5) and the UMES Fall Fling All-Tournament Team (Sept. 12).
Murphy amassed a September-high 27 kills with nine digs and three service aces in a five-set match versus Loyola-Maryland (Sept. 12). She also collected four double-doubles during the month, including a 22-kill, 19-dig performance against Alabama State (Sept. 10).
The junior boasts a 3.953 grade point average as a business administration major. Murphy is a Chancellor's Scholar, a member of the University Honors Program and a Golden Key International Honor Society recipient. She is considering a career in marketing.
