NORFOLK, Va. - Norfolk State University senior guard Rae Corbo, the top scorer in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference women's basketball, poured in 29 points for the second straight game to lead the Spartans to an 82-58 victory over North Carolina Central University on Saturday afternoon inside Echols Hall.
Corbo, who entered the contest as the nation's 18th-leading scorer with 20.9 points per game, connected on 11 of 20 shots, including 3 of 4 from long distance, and 4-for-5 free throws, while adding three rebounds, three assists and three steals.
As a team, Norfolk State (5-11, 4-1 MEAC) shot 47.7 percent from the field (31 of 65), while NCCU hit 39.0 percent of its field goal attempts (23 of 59). The Lady Eagles also struggled from the charity stripe, making just 4 of 11 free throws.
NCCU (3-14, 1-4 MEAC) was sparked by senior forward
Racquel Davis with 17 points and six rebounds, while senior guard
Khyra Conerly added 14 points. Rookie forward
Kierona Morton, playing in her first game since Dec. 14, grabbed a season-high 11 rebounds with six points and two blocked shots for the Lady Eagles.
NCCU returns to conference action on Monday, Jan. 19 at Hampton University.
