HAMPTON, Va. - North Carolina Central University committed as many turnovers as it scored points on Monday night against the top team in the MEAC, resulting in a 75-36 loss to Hampton University at the HU Convocation Center.
NCCU's 36 turnovers are the most since Dec. 30, 2011, when the Lady Eagles had 36 miscues at UNC-Chapel Hill.
On Monday, Hampton turned those turnovers into 32 points as the Lady Pirates led by as much as 45 points, 67-22, with 8:05 left in the contest. Hampton's cushion was 34-13 at intermission.
NCCU (3-15, 1-5 MEAC) was topped by senior forward
Racquel Davis with 21 points and nine rebounds. As a team, the Lady Eagles made just 11 of 40 field goal attempts (27.5 percent).
Hampton (9-9, 5-0 MEAC) received a game-high 30 points from Malia Tate-DeFreitas, the conference's second-leading scorer, who also had six of her team's 18 steals.
The Lady Eagles return to the hardwood on Saturday, Jan. 24 at 2 p.m. against Coppin State inside McDougald-McLendon Gym.
