Game 2 Box ScoreNORFOLK, VA. - The North Carolina Central University softball team maintained control over the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference northern division No. 1 ranked Norfolk State Spartans (19-21) for 12 of the 15 innings during a doubleheader split in Norfolk, Va., Saturday, April 26 as the Lady Eagles (8-33) captured the 5-2 victory during game one and suffered a heartbreaking 4-3 extra inning loss to the Spartans in game two.

London Booker (Richmond, Va.) set a new NCCU division I record during the first contest as the 5-9 hurler fanned 12 NSU batters, topping her pervious best of 11 strikeouts set on March 15, 2014 against Md. Eastern Shore. Booker's 12 K's is the most by any Lady Eagle since Jennifer Jones' 16 on April 21, 2003.
During game one NCCU jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning after rookie
Dominque Wilson (Mooresville, N.C.) singled through the left side followed by junior
Martha Batie (Harrisburg, Pa.) reaching first on a throwing error by the pitcher during her sacrifice bunt attempt.
Sophomore De'Onna Smith (McLeansville, N.C.) loaded the bases after a walk as junior
Tiphani Jackson's (Bowie, Md.) hit by pitch drew the first Lady Eagle run of the contest.

Jenny Tracy's (Le Grande, Ore.) sac fly to left field scored Batie and gave NCCU the 2-0 advantage closing out the top half of the second.
Holding the Spartans scoreless after two complete, the Lady Eagles capitalized again in the top of the third inning.

Emerie Germ (Canton, Ga.) knocked in her second homer of the season with a solo shot over the center field fence.
Wilson's groundout gave the Lady Spartans two outs, while Batie reached base being hit by a pitch and scored from first after Smith's double to left center gave NCCU the 4-0 lead.
Jackson singled up the middle to end the inning, scoring Smith from second as the Lady Eagles pushed ahead 5-0 over NSU.
The Spartans put their first run on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning and added a second during the bottom of the seventh as the Lady Eagles collected the 5-2 game one victory.
During game two NSU jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first before the Lady Eagles answered in the top half of the second inning.
Smith led off the second with a single to the pitcher followed by Jackson reaching first on a throwing error from the circle as Smith advanced to third.Tracy bunted back to the pitcher as Smith scored, Jackson moved to third and Tracy took a second base on the play.With two runners in scoring position senior London Germ (Canton, Ga.) singled to short stop, scoring Jackson and giving NCCU the 2-1 lead at the end of the second.During the top of the seventh the Lady Eagles added to their lead after senior Camille Hampton (Lakewood, Calif.) pinch hit for Markell Wylie (Fayetteville, N.C.) and started in the inning with a single to center field. Wylie reentered for Hampton at first and stole second. After London Germ's groundout sophomore Angelique Perricelli (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) grounded out to first, advancing Wylie to third.With two outs, Emerie Germ knocked in NCCU's third run of the contest with a single to center field, giving the Lady Eagles the 3-1 advantage.
The Spartans battled back during the bottom of the final inning as they collected two runs on four hits, knotting the scored at three.
NCCU was unable to convert using the "Texas Tiebreaker" during extra innings while a Lady Eagle error during the bottom of the eighth plagued the defense as NSU's Kathy Cortez walk-off sac fly to left field scored Mikki Haury from third giving the Spartans the 4-3 victory.
The Lady Eagles wrap up the 2014 season on the road as NCCU takes on the arch rival North Carolina A&T Aggies in a three-game series in Greensboro, May 3-4. Doubleheader action on Saturday, May 3 begins at 1 p.m., followed by the series finally on Sunday, May 4 at noon.
