NCCU SOFTBALL OUTHITS ELON DURING 7-2 MIDWEEK LOSS

Lady Eagles Out Hit Phoenix 8-to-5

Box Score ELON, N.C. – Despite outhitting its opponent, the North Carolina Central University softball team dropped a mid-week nonconference battle as the Lady Eagles fell 7-2 to the Elon Phoenix on Wednesday, April 23 at the Hunt Softball Field in Elon, N.C.

After a scoreless first two innings senior London Germ (Canton, Ga.) collected the Lady Eagles first hit of the third inning with a bunt to third base with one out.

Sophomore Angelique Perricelli (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) earned her second hit of the contest with a shot down the left field line, advancing Germ to second followed by junior Emerie Germ (Canton, Ga.) advancing both her sister and Perricelli and scoring position as she was thrown out at first.

Rookie Dominque Wilson (Mooresville, N.C.) put NCCU on the board first after a two-RBI single to left center scored London Germ and Perricelli giving the Lady Eagles the early 2-0 lead.

The Phoenix answered the effort in the bottom of the inning after a two-run homer from junior Grace Eng knotted the contest at two.
NCCU led off the top of the fifth with a single to the pitcher from junior Tiphani Jackson (Bowie, Md.), making the Phoenix go with a change in the circle as Catlin O'Shea stepped in for Chelsea White.

After the pitching change, London Germ hit into a double play when her line drive to third was caught and found junior Jackson stranded in no man's land on first. O'Shea would fan the next batter to end the inning.

Elon tacked on another run in the bottom of the fifth after Emily Cameron drew a bases loaded walk, scoring Carey Million, increasing its lead to 6-2.

The Phoenix added its final tally in the bottom of the sixth with a single to center field by Carleigh Nester, scoring Lauren Oldham who had reached on an error.
