LADY EAGLES 11 HITS NOT ENOUGH IN REMATCH AT APP STATE

Emerie Germ Finished 3-for-4 at the plate for NCCU

Box Score BOONE, N.C. – Despite out hitting its opponents 11 to nine, the North Carolina Central University softball team dropped a 7-5 decision to the Appalachian State Mountaineers during a midweek nonconference match-up on April 2 in Boone, N.C.

The Lady Eagles took a quick 1-0 lead during the top of the first inning after senior London Germ (Canton, Ga.) reached first after being walked. Germ advanced to second when sophomore Angelique Perricelli (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) sacrifice bunted to third base.

Emerie Germ (Canton, Ga.) scored her sister from second, collecting her first hit of the game with a double to right center.
App State answered in the bottom of the first knotting the score at one heading into the second.

After a scoreless second inning, NCCU struck again in the top of the third. London Germ singled to short stop, advancing to third on a throwing error.

Emerie Germ scored her sister again, collecting her second consecutive hit and RBI with a single to center field.

The Mountaineers matched the Lady Eagles efforts in the bottom of the inning after a solo homer from Pepper Butler tied the contest at two.

With one out on the board, in the top of the fourth, sophomore De'Onna Smith (McLeansville, N.C.) reached first with a single up the middle.

Smith advanced to third after redshirt freshmen Jenny Tracy (LaGrange, Ore.) doubled to left center field.

Junior Tiphani Jackson (Bowie, Md.) loaded the bases when her shot back to the pitcher was unsuccessfully used to try and pick off Smith on third base.

NCCU pulled ahead 3-2 when sophomore Markell Wylie (Fayetteville, N.C.) singled to shortstop, scoring Smith and advancing her teammates a base.

Perricelli collected an RBI after being hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, scoring Tracy and giving the Lady Eagles the 4-2 lead at the end of the fourth.

A three-RBI homerun from Cara Parker put App State back on top 5-4 in the bottom of the fifth inning.

In the top of the sixth NCCU tied the contest when Wylie doubled to right field followed by Emerie Germ's RBI single to right field knotting the score at five.

The Mountaineers pulled ahead in the bottom of the inning after they knocked in their third homer of the contest when a 2-RBI shot over the left field fence secured the 7-5 App State victory.

Emerie Germ led the Lady Eagles at the plate going 3-for-4 with three RBI's.

Sophomore London Booker (Richmond, Va.) collected the NCCU loss after she pitched the final six innings of the contest, facing 14 batters, giving up five earned runs, no walks and two strike outs.

The Lady Eagles return to the diamond when NCCU opens Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference plat at home, hosting the Savannah State Tigers in a three-game series beginning on Saturday, April  5 at 1 p.m. aat Parkwood Athletic Field in Durham.
