LADY EAGLES DROP MIDWEEK DOUBLEHEADER AT COLLEGE OF CHARLESTON

Smith Hits 4-for-5 at the Plate During Two Games

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CHARLESTON, S.C. – The North Carolina Central University softball team suffered a pair of road losses as the Lady Eagles fell to the College of Charleston Cougars 5-1 and 7-0 on Wednesday, April  9 in Charleston, S.C.

During game one CofC pulled ahead early scoring four runs in the first two innings.

After two scoreless innings NCCU seized its only run of the afternoon after sophomore De'Onna Smith (McLeansville, N.C.) doubled to right field, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored off of redshirt freshmen Jenny Tracy's (LaGrange, Ore.) single over the Cougars second baseman.

CofC added one more run during the bottom of the sixth before sealing the 5-1 victory over the visiting Lady Eagles.

Sophomore London Booker (Richmond, Va.) pitched the complete six innings for NCCU. Booker faced 24 batters, gave up seven hits, five earned runs and one walk during the loss.

In the second contest of the day the Lady Eagles were unable to calculate their seven hits into runs as NCCU was shut out 7-0.

The Lady Eagles held CofC scoreless during the first two innings before the Cougars added three runs to the board during the bottom of the third.

CofC pushed its lead further out of reach as the Cougars collected two more runs during the fifth inning followed by a pair in the sixth.

Rookie Dominuqe Wilson (Mooresville, N.C.) collected the NCCU lose pitching six complete innings. Wilson faced 33 batters, gave up 8 hits, seven runs (four earned) and five walks while sitting four Cougars during their at bats.

During the two games Smith finished 4-for-5 at the plate scoring NCCU's lone run in game one.

The Lady Eagles travel to Orangeburg, S.C., on Saturday, April  12 as NCCU takes on the South Carolina State Lady Bulldogs in a three-game weekend conference series.
