NCCU SOFTBALL WRAPS UP SERIES AT UNCW WITH TWO ROAD LOSSES

London Germ Finishes Game Two 3-for-4 at the Plate

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WILMINGTON, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University softball team dropped a pair of road defeats as the Lady Eagles (0-15) finished the three-game series at UNC Wilmington with the Seahawks (11-8) taking game one 11-3 and defeating NCCU 6-3 during the second contest on Sunday, March 9 in Wilmington.  

In the first contest of the day, NCCU scored three runs on seven hits including sophomore Emerie Germ's (Canton, Ga.) first homerun of the season during the top of the fifth inning while leaving four runners on base and committing four errors.

Sophomore London Booker (Richmond, Va.) collected the loss for the Lady Eagles. Booker (0-8) pitched 4.0 innings gave up eight hits, six runs, and three walks.

Rookie Brianna Hampton (Lakewood, Calif.) took over the mound during the bottom of the fifth inning allowing an additional three UNCW hits, five runs, two earned runs and one walk as the Seahawks defeated NCCU 11-3 in the bottom of the sixth inning.

During game two, UNCW struck first scoring two runs in the bottom of the second off of a two-RBI homer from Chamblee.

Opening the third, after two quick ground outs, junior London Germ (Canton, Ga.) singled for a bunt followed by a single to short stop from redshirt freshmen Jenny Tracy (LaGrange, Ore.).

Emerie Germ singled to right field, scoring her sister, and putting the Lady Eagles on the board for the first time during game three.

The Seahawks answered during the bottom of the third inning scoring two unearned runs and pushing their lead to 4-1.

After a scoreless fourth inning, sophomore Markell Wylie (Fayetteville, N.C.) earned a spot on first after a single to third base. London Germ advanced her teammate after a single bunt, followed by Tracy's sacrifice bunt to third base.

With runners on second and third, Emerie Germ's grounder to first base scored Wylie.

Rookie Dominique Wilson (Mooresville, N.C.) singled through the left side, scoring London Germ, cutting the UNCW lead to one.

Closing the sixth inning the Seahawks sealed their victory, and the series sweep after a ground out RBI to second base scored a fifth run for UNCW and a wild pitch from Wilson with a runner on third allowed the sixth run to cross the plate.

As a team, NCCU collected three runs on eight hits while leaving six runners on base and giving up four errors.

Wilson (0-6) earned the loss for the Lady Eagles giving up ten hits, six runs, four earned runs and three walks while striking out one batter.

NCCU returns to the diamond on Tuesday, March 11 as the Lady Eagles travel to Clinton, S.C., to take on the Presbyterian Blue Hose in doubleheader action beginning at 2 p.m.
