Box Score WILMINGTON, N.C. – During day one of weekend action, the North Carolina Central University softball team (0-13) dropped a 4-0 decision to the UNC Wilmington Seahawks (9-8) on Saturday, March 8 in Wilmington, N.C.
Senior London Germ (Canton, Ga.) led the Lady Eagles at the plate during the shortage. As the team struggled to find their offensive momentum only collected four hits as a team, Germ finished the contest with two hits during her three at bats.
UNCW added a quick run to the book after scoring in the bottom of the first inning off of a RBI single up the middle.
Pushing the lead to two, a RBI walk during the bottom of the second inning gave the Seahawks the 2-0 advantage.
Innings three through five remained scoreless for both teams until mishaps in the bottom of the six cost NCCU two unearned runs.
Up 4-0, UNCW sealed the shutout as the Rowland struck out the Lady Eagles final two batters during the top of the seventh inning.
On the mound for NCCU, rookie Dominique Wilson (Mooresville, N.C.) collected the loss. Wilson (0-5) pitched the entire six innings, gave up six hits, four runs, two earned runs, eight walks and three strikeouts.
The Lady Eagles wrap the three-game series with UNCW on Sunday, March 9 as NCCU returns to Wilmington to face the Seahawks in doubleheader action beginning at noon.
