DURHAM, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University softball team looks to stay unbeaten at home as the Lady Eagles (4-19) host the Appalachian State Mountaineers (11-16) in a mid-week single game on Wednesday, March 26 at Parkwood Athletic Field. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
NCCU is coming off of a weekend series at Liberty where the Lady Eagles went 1-2.
Sophomore De'Onna Smith (McLeansville, N.C.) led NCCU during the three-game series in Lynchburg, Va., going 4-for-8 (.500) at the plate with three runs, seven RBI's and two homers.
London Germ (Canton, Ga.) leads the Lady Eagles at bat during the season, boasting a .382 average and has stolen a team-best six bases while Smith provides the power in the NCCU lineup having hit four home runs and driven in 10 RBI this season.
Pitcher
London Booker (Richmond, Va.) leads in appearances with 14 and starts with 12. Booker is 2-10 with a 5.39 ERA in 62.1 innings and has struck out 41 batters. Behind Booker is rookie Dominique Wilson (Mooresville, N.C.) who sports a 5.65 ERA in 60.2 innings and has fanned 36 batters.
The Lady Eagles and the Mountaineers last met on February 18, 2012 in doubleheader action in Cary, N.C., as NCCU dropped both contests (12-1, 6-1).
App State is led by Cynthia Gomez's .349 average at the plate while Sarah Warnock heads the team with three home runs on the year and Dani Heichen leads the Mountaineers in stolen bases going a perfect 12-for-12.
On the mound Shiyaun Landeros has earned seven of App States victories during her 20 appearances and 11 season starts. Landeros has a 3.22 ERA while she has pitched 91.1 innings, striking out a team-best 63 batters this season.
