DURHAM, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University softball team returns to the field after a 16-day hiatus due to inclement weather across the Carolinas. The Lady Eagles (0-4) travel to Buies Creek, N.C., where they will face the Campbell Camels (7-7) on Tuesday, Feb. 25 in doubleheader action beginning at 5 p.m.
The game was originally scheduled as a home series at Parkwood Athletic Field for NCCU, but has been moved to Amanda Littlejohn Stadium.
The Lady Eagles opened the 2014 season on the road at the Upstate Classic Softball Tournament (Feb. 7-9) in Spartanburg, S.C., where NCCU dropped four consecutive games (vs. Virginia 8-1, vs. Eastern Michigan 2-1, vs. Youngstown State 6-5 and vs. Towson 18-6).
Currently leading NCCU at the plate is junior catcher
Emerie Germ (Canton, Ga.), who finished in Spartanburg batting 6-for-14 (.429) at the plate with two RBIs.
On the mound, sophomore pitcher
London Booker (Richmond, Va.) is currently 0-4 with a 5.4 ERA. Booker pitched 18.1 innings at the Upstate Classic, only walking one batter and striking out 10.
The Camels, who currently leads the overall series with a 13-0 advantage, are led offensively by freshman Milly Martinet, who is hitting .421 with 16 hits and four home runs driving in 16 on the season. Stephanie Jones and Ericka Nesbitt are other offensive leaders for Campbell. Jones is hitting .360 collecting 18 hits and slugging .540 and has scored 11 runs. The left-handed hitting Nesbitt has hit .341 with 15 hits and totaled 18 bases on the season.
