PRINCESS ANNE, MD. – The North Carolina Central University women's basketball team fell during its first Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference matchup of the season, as the Lady Eagles fell 71-61 to the Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks (3-4, 1-0 MEAC), Saturday, Dec. 6 in Princess Anne, Maryland.
NCCU (2-5, 0-1 MEAC) was led by senior
Racquel Davis (Brooklyn, New York) who led all-scorers during the contest with a game-best 21 points and team-high seven boards.
Two additional Lady Eagles finished in double-figures as
Morgan Jones (Stockbridge, Georgia) and
Khyra Conerly (Okalnd, California) finished with 13 and 12 respectively.
Davis scored first during the contest, giving NCCU the early lead with a made layup from
Rachel Williams (Rancho Cucamonga, California) at the 18:38 mark.
A Jones layup with 15:57 left in the first half, gave the Lady Eagles their largest lead of the contest, up 6-2 over the Hawks.
After three ties and three lead changes, UMES was able to take a 40-28 lead into the locker room at the half.
NCCU's second half comeback efforts fell short as the Lady Eagles outscored the Hawks 33-31 in the second half, falling 71-61.
UMES was led by the Jessica Long (15), TeAmber Burke (13) and Shawnee Sweeney (10) trio who combined for 38 of the Hawks points while Taryana Kelly led the game with 12 boards.
NCCU looks for its first MEAC win on Monday, Dec. 8 as the Lady Eagles take on the Howard Bison at 5:30 p.m., in Washington, D.C.
