NCCU WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY TEAM DEFEATS NC A&T

NCCU junior Amber Brooks finishes first in women’s 5k race


DURHAM, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University women's cross country squad, led by junior Amber Brooks, captured a team victory over the visiting Aggies of North Carolina A&T State University on Sept. 7 in Durham, N.C.

Brooks, who finished in first place, completed the 5k course in 22 minutes and 44 seconds as the Lady Eagles hosted the fourth annual Eagle-Aggie Cross Country Classic at the Al Buehler Cross Country Trail, located on the campus of Duke University.

NCCU junior Regina Summerville completed the race in fourth place with a time of 25:40, followed by senior Delesha Conquest (26:23, fifth), junior Syrita Hunt (26:37, sixth), and senior Sararesa Hudson (28:39, ninth).

On the men's side, the Eagles were led by freshmen runners Gregory Coward, Deandre James, and Victor Dunbar, who finished the 6k course fourth (21:32), fifth (22:51), and eighth place (24:18), respectively.

In addition, sophomore Kevin Vincent finished with a time of 25:22 (12th) followed by freshman Carlton Edwards (27:07, 13th) and sophomore Brett Boykin-Roach (27:07, 14th).

The NCCU men's and women's cross-country teams will travel to Burlington, N.C., on Sept. 14 as participants in the Elon Invitational, hosted by Elon University.
