GREENSBORO, N.C. – North Carolina Central University medaled in four events during the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The three-day competition ended on Saturday (May 4) at the Irwin Belk Track in Greensboro, N.C.
Senior high jumper
Willie Calvin earned the only gold medal for the Eagles. On day one of competition, Calvin, the 2012 MEAC indoor high jump champion, earned his most recent gold medal with a jump of 2.11 meters (6’11”).
Individual silver medals were awarded to female sprinter
Ashley McCoy in the 100m dash with a time of 11.52 seconds and female hurdler
Anthonia Ballard in the 100m hurdles, who finished with the time of 13.91.
In addition, McCoy earned a fifth place finish in the 200m dash (23.38).
Regina Summerville earned the bronze medal in the women’s 400m hurdles with a time of 1:01.67.
On the men’s side,
Phillip Barren finished fifth in the 100m dash (10.53) and
James Reese finished eighth in the shot put at a distance of 14.00m (45’ 11.25”). The foursome of
Thomas Davis, Jr., Barren,
Jaye Pratt, and
Snonsio Boye-Weah placed sixth in the 4x100m relay (41.62).
For the Lady Eagles,
La'Creesha Gore finished sixth in the 400m dash (55.35). The hurdling duo of
Delesha Conquest and
Sararesa Hudson placed fifth (1:02.73) and seventh (1:03.50) in the 400m hurdles. Gore, Hudson, Conquest, and
Ikea Long earned fifth place in the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:50.63.
In the team standings, the Lady Eagles placed ninth with 41 points, while the men finished in 13th place with 19 points.
