DURHAM, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University softball team returns home to host the rival Aggies from North Carolina A&T in a crucial weekend series. The Saturday, May 4 doubleheader will begin action at 2 p.m., followed by a single game on Sunday, May 5 with the Senior Day finale beginning at 12 p.m., in Durham, N.C., at Parkwood Athletic Field.
Since the transition to Division-I the Aggies lead NCCU 4-11 overall with the May 5-6, 2012 series in favor of NC A&T 2-1 (1-6, 2-1, 0-4).
Overall, NCCU currently posts a 4-42 overall record and 2-9 in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play while the Aggies have collected a 7-32 overall record and 5-7 in league play.
The Lady Eagles return to the field after 10 days since their last competition on April 25 as NCCU dropped a doubleheader to the UNC-Wilmington Seahawks 9-0, 5-1 on the road.
On the offensive end the Lady Eagles are led by the Germ sister duo.
Emerie Germ leads the squad with a .276 batting average while
London Germ posts a .269. Junior transfer
Camille Hampton leads NCCU with a .396 slugging percentage after earning five season doubles and four home runs. Hampton as also contributed a team high of 14 RBI’s during the season.
NC A&T returns to action after suffering a pair of losses to the Elon Phoenix on May 1 (1-0, 2-4).
Offensively for the Aggies, Sabrina Edwards ranks third in MEAC play with a .398 league batting average and .378 overall. Edwards is second in the conference in slugging percentage with .682 (.633 overall) off of seven season doubles and six homeruns and leads NC A&T with 23 RBI’s on the season.
Prior to Sunday’s game three of the series, the 2013 softball seniors will be honored:
Bianka Molina (San Jose, Calif.),
Nadia Jefferies (Garner, N.C.),
Kayla McPeek (Westerville, Ohio), Mae’Risha Watts (Whiteville, N.C.) and
Shakemia Edwards (Greenville, N.C.).
The fourth and final playoff position will be determined after the three-game series with NCCU currently 2-9 in league play and NC A&T tied for fourth place in the Southern Division at 5-7.
