GREENSBORO, N.C. – North Carolina Central University senior high jumper
Willie Calvin won his second career conference title in the men’s high jump during the opening day of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Thursday in Greensboro, N.C.
On day one of the three-day competition, May 2-4, Calvin, the 2012 MEAC indoor high jump champion, earned his most recent gold medal with a jump of 2.11 meters (6’11”).
NCCU senior sprinter
Ashley McCoy advanced to the 200-meter dash finals, after running a preliminary time of 23.78 seconds. McCoy’s time put her at third overall heading into the 200m final on Saturday.
The hurdling trio of
Regina Summerville (1:02.11),
Delesha Conquest (1:02.51), and
Sararesa Hudson (1:03.08) advanced to Saturday's finals in the 400m hurdles.
Senior
James Reese finished eighth in the discus throw with a distance of 44.69 meters (146' 7").
The NCCU men’s squad currently stands in third place in overall team standings with 11 points after three events.
The competition continues on Friday (May 3) at 9 a.m. and will conclude on Saturday (May 4) around 4:20 p.m.
