NCCU SOFTBALL STARTS FIVE-GAME ROAD STRETCH THURSDAY

Lady Eagles to Visit UNC-Greensboro and Savannah State


DURHAM, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University softball team will play a doubleheader at the University of North Carolina Greensboro Spartans on Thursday, April 4 at 4:00 p.m. The Lady Eagles will then be on the road to Savannah State University to start a three-game conference series. The first game will be April 6 at 1:00 p.m. followed by a game at 4:00 p.m. The series will end April 7 with the first pitch being thrown at noon.

The NCCU Lady Eagles return to action after a pair of conference losses against Bethune-Cookman University, leaving them with an overall record of 2-26. The UNCG Spartans start the series with a 7-4 record in the Southern Conference and an overall record of 25-10. Savannah State begins 1-2 in the MEAC with one game win over FAMU and is 17-14 overall.

Bianka Molina, one of the senior pitchers for the Lady Eagles, has taken the top spot offensively batting a .348. Molina has a slugging percentage of .435 with eight hits and two doubles. Leadoff batter London Germ tops NCCU with 18 hits and nine runs scored.

Freshman London Booker has earned 52 strikeouts from the mound for the Lady Eagles with a 7.56 ERA, making 25 appearances this season. Molina has total of 19 strikeouts for NCCU in 14 games. Fellow senior Kayla McPeek has a 2.92 ERA, pitching a game win for the Lady Eagles.

Freshman Lindsey Thomas (.396) is leading the UNCG softball program in home runs with a staggering 13, which is tied for seventh in the nation, while junior Katelyn Bedwell (.387) had two home runs in the team’s last outing against Virginia Tech. Aisha Figueroa (.261) is the wheels of UNCG with 11 out of 13 attempts on stolen bases.

UNCG redshirt junior Raeanne Hanks has a 14-4 record with a 1.91 ERA and 111 strikeouts, while freshman Nicole Thomas has a 4-1 record with a 3.26 ERA and 22 strikeouts. Rookie Kelly Lupton is 3-1 with 39 strikeouts and a 3.74 ERA.

Savannah State rookie Torrian Wright has a .386 batting average with 34 hits and nine home runs. Senior Madison Hedderly (.324) has 27 RBI with nine doubles. Freshman Antonette Smith (.342) has yet to be thrown out in six stolen base attempts. 

SSU senior Madison Hedderly is 14-7 on the mound with a 3.80 ERA and 118 strikeouts. Classmate Cassie Standard has a 1-1 record with an 8.05 ERA, giving up 48 hits. Freshman Amanda McDowell has an 11.77 ERA with a 2-6 record in nine appearances from the circle.
