UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – North Carolina Central University sprinter
Ashley McCoy advanced to the finals in the women’s 100-meter dash, championship division, at the prestigious Penn Relays in University Park, Pa., on Saturday, April 27.
The senior sprinter finished with the time of 11.78 seconds in the championship finals for a seventh-place finish, only four-tenths of a second behind event winner Olivia Ekpone of Texas A&M.
Also for the Lady Eagles, the hurdling duo of
Delesha Conquest and
Regina Summerville completed the 400m hurdles finishing with the times of 1:03.42 (51st) and 1:03.78 (54th), respectively.
The foursome of
La'Creesha Gore, Conquest, McCoy, and Ikea Long completed the 4x400 meter relay with the time of 3:50.99 (36th). In addition,
Jasmine Wanamaker, Conquest, McCoy, and Gore competed in the women’s 4x100m relay, finishing with a time of 47.20 seconds (31st).
On the men’s side, senior jumper
Willie Calvin earned a 10th-place finish in the men’s high jump, completing a jump of 2.00m (6’ 6.75”). Also in the field,
James Reese completed the shot put with a throw of 13.65m (44’ 9.50”) for 16th place.
Phillip Barren,
Snonsio Boye-Weah,
Jaye Pratt, and
Thomas Davis, Jr. completed the 4x100m relay competition with a time of 41.59 (24th), while the foursome of Barren, Boye-Weah, Pratt, and
Kevin Vincent finished the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:18.18 (43rd).
NCCU men and women’s track and field teams are scheduled to compete in the MEAC Championships, May 2-4, in Greensboro, N.C.
