CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University men's and women’s track and field squads combined for 11 top-five finishes at the Charlotte Invitational on April 19 in Charlotte, N.C.
The Eagles enjoyed five top-five performances, while the Lady Eagles posted six top-five performances.
Finishing in first place for the Lady Eagles was the 4x400-meter relay squad, consisting of
La'Creesha Gore,
Delesha Conquest,
Ashley McCoy, and
Ikea Long. The Lady Eagles finished with a winning time of 3:57.75.
Regina Summerville, Conquest, and
Sararesa Hudson earned second (1:03.29), third (1:04.76), and fourth (1:04.79) place finishes in the 400m hurdles.
With a fourth-place finish,
Amber Brooks completed the 1500m run with a time of 4:45.32. Rounding out the top-five for the NCCU women,
Jasmine Wanamaker finished the 100m hurdles in 14.32 seconds for a fifth-place finish.
On the men’s side, the foursome of
Phillip Barren,
Snonsio Boye-Weah,
Thomas Davis, Jr., and
Jaye Pratt ran both the 4x400m (3:20.77) and 4x100m (41.55) relays, finishing second and third respectively.
The time of 49.46 earned Boye-Weah a fifth-place finish in the 400m dash.
In the field, senior
Willie Calvin placed second in the men’s high jump with a leap of 2.03m, while fellow senior
James Reese finished fifth in the discus throw covering a distance of 45.96m.
The NCCU men's and women’s outdoor track & field teams will return to action on April 25 at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pa.
