NCCU SOFTBALL DROPS DOUBLEHEADER TO COUGARS

Hampton Earns Second Homerun during Game One

(www.NCCUEaglePride.com) – Despite Camille Hampton’s two-run homerun during the bottom of the seventh inning in game one, the North Carolina Central University softball team was swept during the doubleheader match-up between the College of Charleston Cougars 8-2 and 8-0 on Wednesday, April 10, in Durham, N.C., at Parkwood Athletic Field.  

During game one the Cougars offense put at least one run on the board during every inning minus the fifth taking an 8-0 lead over the Lady Eagles heading into the bottom of the seventh inning.

Sophomore Emerie Germ started the inning with a single up the middle before she was replaced on the bases by fellow sophomore Martha Batie. Hampton then came to the plate, scoring the Lady Eagles only runs in the series with a homerun over the left field fence, scoring Batie.

Rookie pitcher London Booker (1-19), took home the 8-2 loss for NCCU after pitching 5.1 innings, giving up eight hits, six runs, five earned runs, three walks and striking out five CofC batters.

In the second match-up the Lady Eagles offense earned three hits and was unsuccessful to convert any into runs, compared to the Cougars 12 hits and eight runs.

Valerie Cassell earned the shut out for CofC, while Bianka Molina (0-10) collected the 8-0 loss. Molina pitched three innings gave up eight hits, six runs, all which were earned, and walked one batter.

The Lady Eagles return to the field Saturday, April 13 in doubleheader action versus Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference opponent South Carolina State. First pitch is set for 2 p.m., in Durham, N.C., at Parkwood Athletic Field.
