MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – North Carolina Central University senior Ashley McCoy earned a first-place finish in the women’s 200-meter dash with a time of 24.41 seconds at the Coastal Carolina Invitational this weekend on March 8-9 in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
The Lady Eagles amassed 11 other top-ten finishes. La'Creesha Gore finished behind McCoy in the 200-meter dash, placing seventh with a time of 25.16 seconds.
In the women’s 100-meter hurdles, Anthonia Ballard earned a fourth-place finish with a time of 14.56 seconds and Delesha Conquest finished eighth at a time of 14.65 seconds. In addition, Conquest finished second in the 400-meter hurdles (1:03.28), while Regina Summerville finished two spots behind in fourth place (1:03.79).
Amber Brooks, Taisha Parkins, and Syrita Hunt finished fourth (2:18.26), sixth (2:21.05), and eighth (2:22.41), respectively in the 800-meter run. In addition, Brooks finished ninth in the 1500-meter run at a time of 4:45.27.
NCCU’s first squad of the 4x400 meter relay, consisting of Conquest, McCoy, Gore, and Ikea Long, finished fourth with a time of 3:53.80. The foursome of Christa Landy, Summerville, Sararesa Hudson, and Ballard made up the second squad that finished in seventh-place (4:00.60).
On the men’s side, the Eagles enjoyed five top-ten finishes. Freshman Kevin Vincent finished sixth in the 400-meter hurdles (57.14) and tenth in the 110-meter hurdles (15.90 seconds). In the 100-meter dash, Demario House and Phillip Barren finished seventh (11.09 seconds) and ninth (11.21 seconds) respectively.
On the field, senior James Reese finished fifth in the discus throw with a distance of 42.45m.
The NCCU men’s and women’s outdoor track & field teams will return to action on March 15-16 at the Wake Forest Invitational in Winston-Salem, N.C.
