ELON, N.C. – Despite a three run rally during the top of the third inning, putting the North Carolina Central University softball team up 3-2, the Elon Phoenix claimed the 6-3 victory on Wednesday, March 20, in Elon, N.C., at Hunt field.

London Germ opened up the contest with a single down the third base line.
Senior
Nadia Jefferies was then hit by a pitch advancing Germ to second. The Phoenix defense answered after
Amber Kirkland’s line shot to shortstop was caught and Germ was doubled up at second base.
Camille Hampton’s pop up to second base ended the top half of the inning for the Lady Eagles.
Elon struck first during the game after a two-run homerun from Tomeka Watson put the Phoenix on top 2-0 heading into the second inning.
The second inning remained scoreless between both teams before NCCU approached the bottom of its lineup heading into the third.
Angelique Perricelli lined out to shortstop to start the inning followed by a walk from
Martha Batie. Germ reached first base on a fielder’s choice which advanced Batie on a Phoenix throwing error. Jefferies double to left field scored Batie and advanced Germ to third followed by a dropped fly ball hit by Kirkland to left field which scored Germ.
Jefferies scored from third on a passed ball giving the Lady Eagles the 3-2 heading into the bottom of the inning.
Elon answered in the bottom of the third scoring two more runs before adding a final two more runs to the board in the bottom of the fourth giving them the 6-3 victory over NCCU.
Rookie pitcher
London Booker (1-15) threw the entire game for the Lady Eagles throwing six complete innings, giving up eight hits, six runs, four earned runs, walking three batters and striking out three.
NCCU softball returns to the field on Monday, March 25 as the host the Lady Camels from Campbell University in a doubleheader with first pitch set for 2:30 p.m.
