WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University senior Ashley McCoy finished first in the women’s 200-meter dash with a time of 23.58 seconds this weekend, March 15-16, at the Wake Forest Open in Winston-Salem, N.C.
 
The time of 23.58 seconds in the 200-meters marked a personal best for McCoy.
 
In addition, McCoy completed the 4x400 meter relay team of La'Creesha Gore, Ikea Long, and Christa Landy who finished third with a time of 3:49.18.
 
The Lady Eagles enjoyed four other top-ten performances. Anthonia Ballard andDelesha Conquest finished fourth (1:03.72) and fifth (1:03.82), respectively, in the 400-meter hurdles. In the 800-meter run, Amber Brooks earned a fifth place finish with a time of 2:15.84.
 
The foursome of Conquest, Sararesa Hudson, Regina Summerville, and Ballard made up NCCU’s second team of the 4x400, finishing seventh at 3:55.39.
 
On the men’s side, seniorPhillip Barren led the Eagles, finishing fifth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.64 seconds.
 
NCCU men’s and women’s track and field teams will return to action as they host the L.T. Walker/Lee Calhoun Invitational on March 23, in Durham N.C.
