NCCU SOFTBALL SUFFERS DOUBLEHEADER LOSS TO DSU

Kirkland Earns Two of Lady Eagles Five Hits during Game One

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 DOVER, Del. – The North Carolina Central University softball team suffered a pair of losses on the road as they fell to the Lady Hornets of Delaware State 9-1 and 14-0 on Thursday, March 14, in Dover, Del.

During game one rookie Amber Kirkland earned two out of the Lady Eagles five hits, while also scoring NCCU’s only run of the day off a wild pitch.

The Lady Hornets jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead over the Lady Eagles in the first two innings while the third inning remained scoreless between both teams. NCCU scored its only run of the contest in the top of the fourth inning after Kirkland singled up the middle then advanced from first to home all off of errors scoring for NCCU putting them on the board at 5-1.

DSU scored three more runs in the bottom of the fourth and added one more in the fifth inning to end the game with a 9-1 victory for the Lady Hornets.

Senior Bianka Molina (0-7) took home the loss for the Lady Eagles in the first game pitching four of the five innings, giving up nine hits, eight runs, four earned runs, walking one batter and striking out two.

In the second game of the afternoon the Lady Hornets shut out the Lady Eagles in five innings holding them scoreless in a 14-0 victory for DSU.

Molina and rookie Markell Wylie combined for NCCU’s three hits during the contest. Molina singled to left center in the top of the third and fifth inning while Wylie singled through the left side during the top of the second.

Freshman London Booker (1-12) pitched the entire game for the Lady Eagles giving up 11 hits, 14 runs, eight earned runs, one walk and struck out two batters during her time in the circle.

NCCU falls to 2-19 on the season while DSU advances to 4-11.

The Lady Eagles return to action on Tuesday, March 19 as they make the 11 mile trip to the University of North Carolina taking on the Tarheels in a doubleheader match-up starting at 4 p.m., at the Anderson Softball Stadium in Chapel Hill, N.C.
