DURHAM, N.C. (www.NCCUEaglePride.com) - After a five-season hiatus without a nearby field to call home, the North Carolina Central softball team announces the 2013 home season games will be played roughly six miles from the NCCU campus at Parkwood Athletic Field in Durham, N.C.
During the past five seasons the Lady Eagles have played on various fields throughout the Triangle with an astonishing total of nine different playing surfaces in four cities.
2007 marked the last season NCCU had a regular home turf in Durham, playing on Hillside High Schools softball field. During the 2008-2012 seasons the Lady Eagles regularly traveled to Cary, N.C., to play at Thomas Brooks Park in addition to Oakwood Park (Raleigh, N.C., 2009), Southern Durham High School (Durham, N.C., 2009), N.C. State University (Raleigh, N.C., 2010), Riverside High School (Durham, N.C., 2010), Walnut Creek Park (Raleigh, N.C., 2012), Anderson Stadium, lower level (Chapel Hill, N.C., 2012) and Pineywood Park (Durham N.C., 2012).
“It’s exciting to be back in our own city” said NCCU head coach
Theresa Stephens. “It is good for our girls to not always feel like they are playing a road game and to finally have a sense of pride with having something of their own.”
The premier of the field will be Tuesday, Feb. 12, at 2 p.m. against Longwood University.
Parkwood Athletic Field is located at 5112 Revere Rd., Durham, NC 27713.
