NCCU WOMEN’S BASKETBALL FALLS TO BETHUNE-COOKMAN, 51-34

Dixon Pulls Down Game-High12 Rebounds

Box Score DURHAM, N.C. (www.NCCUEaglePride.com) – During the North Carolina Central University women’s basketball team second match-up with the Lady Wildcats from Bethune-Cookman, the Lady Eagles fell by 15 to BCU 51-34 in McDougald-McLendon Gymnasium on the campus of NCCU.

NCCU rookie Tisha Dixon led the game with 12 rebounds while also contributing eight points in the contest. Red shirt senior Chasidy Williams and freshman Aja Hoyle also added eight points apiece in the defeat.  

During the first twenty minutes of the ball game the Lady Wildcats jumped out to a 6-0 lead over NCCU. Dixon broke the scoring drought for the Lady Eagles at the 16:19 mark after a made layup put NCCU on the board down 6-2.

The Lady Eagles battled back and took the lead 10-9 after two made free throws from freshman Aja Hoyle with 10:21 left in the half. The Lady Wildcats answered, taking their largest lead of the half into the locker room at 30-16.

BCU remained in control of the ball game during the second half pulling ahead by as many as 20.  Two free throws from Dixon in the last minute of the contest knocked the deficit to 17 before time expired with a final score of 51-34.

As a team NCCU shot 28 percent from the field, pulled down a game-high of 33 boards, dished out eight assists, collected five steals, blocked four BCU shots and shot 80 percent from the charity stripe.

The Lady Wildcats were led offensively by the duo of Terrenisha Hollis and Shakeyia Colyer who contributed 18 and 16 points respectively.

BCU as a team shot 36 percent from the field, collected 32 rebounds, dished out 11 assists, stole 12 NCCU possessions, shot 32 percent from behind the arch and 5-for-9 from the free throw line.

The Lady Eagles return to the court Saturday, Feb. 16 when they travel to Savannah, Ga., where they take on the Lady Tigers from Savannah State.
