Kalin Russell led North Carolina Central University's volleyball team during the Eagles 3-0 (25-23, 25-13, 25-17) loss to the Wildcats of Bethune-Cookman on Sunday, Oct. 6 in Daytona Beach, Fla.
The freshman/senior duo finished with seven kills apiece while Murphy collected seven digs and Russell added six digs, three blocks and one service ace.
Contributing to NCCU's offense was the setting twosome of junior
Alice Genna and sophomore
Melissa Rabell Pinerio who circulated 11 and seven assists respectively.
On the defensive end Rabell Pinerio gathered a team-high eight digs while rookie
Ashley Johnson blocked a match-high five B-CU attacks for the Eagles.
During the first set NCCU scored six unanswered points closing in on the Wildcats 24-23 before B-CU's Rhea Simon's kill carried the home Wildcats to a set victory, 25-23.
As a team, the Eagles earned 22 kills, 19 assists, 42 digs, three service aces and a match-high nine team blocks.
Lauren Turner led B-CU with 11 kills while Simon added an additional ten kills, two service aces and four blocks to the Wildcats offense. Delicia Pierre notched 14 digs and Alexas Thomas dished 34 assists for the host team.
Collectively, the Wildcats had 44 kills, 36 assists, 45 digs, nine service aces and 5.5 team blocks.
NCCU continues Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference action on Friday, Oct. 11 when they host the Tigers of Savannah State in a 7 p.m. match-up in Durham, N.C.
