DURHAM, N.C. – Shaw University beat out North Carolina Central University's men's and women's cross country teams during Saturday's running of the NCCU Eagle Classic at Forest Hills Park.
In the women's race, Shaw freshman Merideth Alexander led the way with a time of 20 minutes, 12 seconds, followed by rookie teammate Muriel Evans in second place with a time of 22:41.
NCCU's top female finisher was Kiara Glover in third place with a time of 22:49, while Lady Eagle Christa Landy placed fourth at 24:10.
As a team, the Shaw women took seven of the top nine positions to defeat NCCU with a winning score of 21 points.
In the men's race, Shaw senior Darius Berry took top honors by crossing the finish line in 22:59, while fellow Bears Alphonso Boone (23:16) and Marcus Nelson (23:23) placed second and third, respectively.
NCCU was paced by Snonsio Boye-Weah in fourth place (26:15), while Keenan Terry finished fifth (27:07) for the Eagles.
The men's and women's cross country teams wrap up the 2013 season on Oct. 26 at the MEAC Championships in Princess Anne, Md.
