CARY, N.C. - North Carolina Central University sophomore
Amber Brooks was the second women's runner to cross the finish line at the HBCU Cross Country Challenge on a cool, rainy Saturday morning at Wake Med Soccer Park in Cary, N.C.
Brooks, who won this event as a rookie last year, shaved a second off of that time by finishing this season's 5k run in 19 minutes, 4.4 seconds, just 25 seconds behind the event champion, Kadian Dunkley of Bethune-Cookman. Those two out-ran a huge field with 105 challengers chasing them.
The next best runners for the Lady Eagles were sophomore
Syrita Hunt (21:47.8) and junior
Delesha Conquest (21:48.5) in 36th and 37th place, respectively.
As a team, the NCCU women placed seventh out of 16 teams.
The NCCU men's team placed 14th out of 15 teams. The first to cross the finish line for the Eagles was freshman
Quinn Burkhalter in 56th place with a time of 31:52.1 on the 8k course.
