DURHAM, N.C. (www.NCCUEaglePride.com) - A record crowd of 8,542 witnessed the start of the North Carolina Central University-Duke University cross country dual meet as part of the Bull City Classic festivities inside Wallace Wade Stadium. With one lap around the track in Wallace Wade Stadium 15 minutes prior to the kickoff of the Duke-NCCU football game. The runners then proceeded to the Al Buehler Trail before concluding the races on the Sally Meyerhoff Fitness Loop.

Sophomore Amber Brooks finished in sixth place for the Lady Eagles with a 4k time of 15 minutes and five seconds. The Tampa, Fla., was the only NCCU runner to finish before one of her Duke competitors. Rounding out the top-10 for the Lady Eagles was junior Delesha Conquest (17:17) who finished eighth, sophomore Syrita Hunt (17:41, ninth place) and senior Taisha Parkins (17:58, 10th).

On the men's side, two Eagles finished in the top-10. Freshmen Quinn Burkhalter and Rodie Shambley finished in ninth and 10th place respectively (24:29, 25:05), during the men's 6k race.

The crowd was the largest to witness a Duke cross country home meet. Duke won both the men's and women's team events by sweeping the top five places in each race.

The NCCU men's and women's cross country teams return to action Sept. 22 at the East Carolina University Invitational in Greenville, N.C.
