Box Score 2 RALEIGH, N.C. (www.NCCUEaglePride.com) - North Carolina Central University Shakemia Edwards gathered three hits in the Lady Eagles doubleheader 16-2 and 5-0 losses to Savannah State on Saturday, April 7 in Raleigh, N.C., at the Walnut Creek Park Softball Complex.
In game two of the weekend series, SSU opened with an early 3-0 lead off of three consecutive errors by the NCCU defense. SSU continued its offensive run with two additional runs in the top of the second for a score of 5-0.
NCCU answered back in the third inning. The Lady Eagles held the Tigers scoreless in the top of the inning, while seizing two runs in the bottom of the third.
SSU regained its offensive power by slugging two runs in the top of the fourth and another nine runs in the top of the sixth to seal the opening contest of the doubleheader 16-2.
Maroon and gray senior Aurora Baker pitched a complete game. In 6.0 inning of action, the North Carolina native permitted 14 hits and 16 runs, while striking out one batter against 35 Tigers.
Five Lady Eagles collected one hit apiece, as junior Kayla McPeek notched a double and one run during her two at bats.
SSU’s Tiffany Davies also pitched a complete game, where she allowed five hits and runs, while facing 24 batters.
The three-game series concluded with a NCCU falling to a final 5-0 loss.
SSU attained a pair runs in the top of the first, the top of the fifth and concluded the seven-inning contest with a single run in the top of the sixth.
Edwards connected on two hits for the mighty maroon, while junior pitcher Bianka Molina threw for 7.0 innings of action, allowing 10 hits and five runs, against 30 batters with two strikeouts to boast.
India Morgan paced the SSU offense with two runs and two hits on three times at bat, as Madison Hedderly pitched 7.0 innings to tally four hits and four strikeouts against 24 batters.
The maroon and gray is 3-36 on the season and 2-6 in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference competition.
NCCU returns to road action with Saturday and Sunday action in Orangeburg, S.C., on Saturday, April 14 the Lady Eagles taken on South Carolina State in a doubleheader at 1:00/3:00 p.m. and closeout the weekend with a single contest on Sunday, April 15 at 12:00 p.m.
