BUIES CREEK, N.C. (www.NCCUEaglePride.com) - Despite initial results stating that the Lady Eagles of North Carolina Central University defeated Campbell University 12-1 during game two of the doubleheader on Tuesday, Feb. 21 in Buies Creek, N.C., the Camels actual seized both wins, 9-1 and 12-1.
In the first five-inning contest, NCCU tallied one run in the top of the second, while CU brought home two batters in the bottom of the second, five in the bottom of the third and two more in the bottom of the fifth.
In three innings of play, senior Aurora Baker started in the circle where she allowed five hits, 5-of-7 earned runs and walked three against 23 batters. With 1.2 innings of competition remaining, junior Kayla McPeek relieved Baker. During her time on the mound, McPeek tallied the first strikeout of the night, as she allowed three hits and two runs against eight batters.
Off of junior Sarah Kaiser’s one hit and one RBI on two times are bat, sophomore Cember Carmichael was able earn the one run of game one, with one hit on two times at bat.
The evening twin bill concluded with a 12-1 Campbell win in five innings of competition. The Camels attained three runs in the top of the first and third innings and completed the contest with six runs in the top of the fifth, while NCCU managed one run in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Carmichael paced the Lady Eagles’ offense once again with triple ones, consisting of one run, one hit and one RBI on one time at bat.
NCCU’s Kaiser and sophomore Amanda Bullock shared the defensive responsibilities with seven putouts and six putouts, respectively, while senior Andrea Searls assisted on three chances.
Bianka Molina opened the pitching campaign, with the maroon and gray junior facing 25 batters and allowing seven hits, 10 earned runs and two walks, while striking out four Camels. McPeek relieved Molina with less than an inning of competition remaining. During her time on the mound, McPeek faced four batters, allowing two hits and two earned runs.
Following Tuesday’s contest, NCCU drops to 1-9 on the season.
The Lady Eagles return to diamond action on Tuesday, Feb. 28 as they take on the Wolfpack of North Carolina State University at 4:00 and 6:00 p.m. in Raleigh, N.C.
