NCCU SOFTBALL TAKES ON APPALACHIAN STATE

DURHAM, N.C. (www.NCCUEaglePride.com) The Lady Eagles of North Carolina Central University will open the 2012 home campaign with a 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.  doubleheader against the Mountaineers of Appalachian State University on Saturday, Feb. 18 at Thomas Brooks Park in Cary, N.C.

The two squads meet for the fifth time in school history on Saturday, with ASU leading the series 4-0.  During the 2008 campaign, the Mountaineers obtained two wins in an April 24, Boone, N.C., doubleheader, 9-1 and 12-0.  In 2009, ASU ventured to Durham, N.C., where they defeated NCCU 18-1 and 8-0 on April 25.

Appalachian State, who has been on the road for the last six contests, holds a record of 2-4 on the season.  The squad split a Wednesday, Feb. 15 doubleheader with UNC Charlotte.  ASU took an opening 3-1 victory, while a dropping 1-6 decision in the second game of the contest in Charlotte, N.C.

Following Saturday’s game, the Lady Eagles return to Thomas Brooks Park for a Tuesday, Feb. 21 twin bill against the Camels of Campbell University at 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.
