NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The North Carolina Central University men’s and women’s track & field teams will start the indoor season on Saturday, Dec. 8 at the Christopher Newport University Holiday Open inside the Freeman Center in Newport News, Va.
At last year’s CNU Holiday Open, NCCU posted 11 top-three performances.
NCCU will bring three indoor track & field All-MEAC performers to this year’s meet, including 2012 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference indoor high jump champion Willie Calvin, who cleared 2.16 meters (7 feet, 1 inch) to claim the conference title in February.
The other indoor All-MEAC honorees competing this weekend are senior Ashley McCoy, who was runner-up in the 200-meter dash, and junior Anthonia Ballard, who placed second in the 60m hurdles.
After this weekend, NCCU returns to the track on Jan. 11 at the Clemson Invitational in South Carolina.
