TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The North Carolina Central University women’s volleyball team went toe-to-toe with Florida A&M, the leader of the MEAC Southern Division, on Sunday, but the host Rattlers held off the Eagles for a 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 25-17) victory.
FAMU remains unbeaten in the MEAC Southern Division at 9-0 and improves its overall record to 11-9. NCCU slips to 5-3 in conference play and 7-20 overall.
Earlier this season when these two teams met, the Rattlers held on for a dramatic five-set win in Durham. The Eagles pushed FAMU to the limit in the first two sets, with only five points separating the two squads.
In the third set, FAMU had a slim 13-11 advantage before a 10-3 run put the visitors away.
NCCU was charged by rookie Christine Anthony with 14 kills and 11 digs, her eighth double-double of the season. Junior Kalin Russell added 10 kills, while sophomore setter Alice Genna distributed 33 assists.
The Eagles return to the court on Friday, Nov. 9 by hosting South Carolina State inside McDougald-McLendon Gym at 7 p.m. NCCU and the Bulldogs will be battling for second place in the MEAC Southern Division.
