NCCU’S BROOKS PLACES THIRD AT HAGAN STONE CROSS COUNTRY CLASSIC

Sophomore Leads Lady Eagles to Sixth Place Finish; Eagles Place 15th

PLEASANT GARDEN, N.C. – North Carolina Central University sophomore Amber Brooks was the third runner to cross the finish line during the 2012 Hagan Stone Cross Country Classic women’s 5k race on Saturday (Oct. 6) at Hagan Stone Park in Pleasant Garden, N.C.

Brooks, a native of Tampa, Fla., posted a time of 19:17.19, just 18 seconds behind the event winner Beth Hanson of Wake Forest and eight seconds back of Adrianne Soo from Duke.

Brooks charged the Lady Eagles to a sixth place team finish among 13 squads.

Among the other top performers for the NCCU women, Syrita Hunt placed 36th (22:01.77), Delesha Conquest finished 39th (22:19.42), Taisha Parkins ended 47th (22:44.05) and Regina Summerville 50th (22:58.94).

The top finisher for the NCCU men was freshman Rodiero Shambley in 79th place with a time of 32:24.83 on the 8k course.

As a team, the Eagles placed 15th out of 16 squads.

Both NCCU teams will be back in action on Oct. 13 by hosting the NCCU Eagles Classic.
