Alice Genna recorded season-high numbers as the Eagles concluded their first Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference home match-up of the season in a five-set loss to the Florida A&M Lady Rattlers (25-14, 18-25, 22-25, 25-23, 4-15) on Friday, Oct. 4 in McDougald-McLendon Gymnasium.
Anthony guided the Eagles offense with a double-double; a season-high 23 kills with five errors on 50 attempts and a team-high of 14 digs. NCCU setter, Genna, also recorded a season-high during the conference match-up, contributing 52 assists and nine digs.
Three additional Eagles finished with double-digit kills. Sophomore Dayana Arrufat-Rondon added an additional double-double for NCCU with 15 kills and 13 digs, fellow classmate
Ashley McCarthy tallied 10 kills and nine digs, while Junior
Kalin Russell contributed 10 kills and six digs.
Collectively, the Eagles notched 65 kills with 28 errors on 165 attempts, 58 assists, five service aces, 66 digs and seven team blocks.
The Lady Rattlers were led by Maria Ceccarelli’s team-high 15 kills, Yeisha Arcia’s double-double consisting of 14 kills with seven errors on 36 attempts and 10 digs, and Diana Gonzales’ 45 assists.
NCCU drops to 3-17 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
The Eagles return to the court Sunday, Oct. 7 at 2 p.m., as they host the Lady Wildcats of Bethune-Cookman, where they will honor Breast Cancer Awareness month in their “Think Pink” game.
