WHITT LEADS NCCU AT INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD CAPTAIN’S INVITATIONAL

Eagles Finish in Top-Five during Thirteen Events

NEWPORT NEWS, Va.North Carolina Central University senior Nealie Whitt finished in first place during the men’s shot put at the Christopher Newport Captain’s Invitational this weekend, Jan. 20-21. Whitt led 13 other top-five performances by the NCCU men’s and women’s indoor track & field teams at the Freeman Center in Newport News, Va.
 
Whitt, who also finished in forth place during the men’s weight throw with a 13.66 meter (44 feet, 9.75 inches) toss, earned his first place honors during the men’s shot put with a 14.87m (48-9.5) throw.
 
The NCCU men celebrated five additional top-five finishes during the weekend’s meet. Greg Roper and Nana Atakora-Bediako both finished in second place during their respective events. Roper completed the men’s 200m dash with a time of 22.15, while Atakora-Bediako finished the men’s triple jump with a 15.44m (50-08) leap.
 
Freshmen Keenan Terry finished in third place during the men’s 200m hurdles (27.58), senior Kendall Delapp finished in forth place during the men’s long jump with a 7.02m (23-00.50) jump, and the four-man team of Snonsio Boye-Weah, Brandon Addison, Phillip Barren and Roper also received a fourth place finish during the men’s 4x400m relay (3:24.72).
 
On the women’s side, the Lady Eagles posted six top-five performances. Both of the Lady Eagles 4x400m relay teams finished with top-five honors. The foursome of #La’Creesha Gore#, Ashley McCoy, Sararesa Hudson and Ciara Houston finished in second place (3:56.83), while the team of Delesha Conquest, Anthonia Ballard, Regina Summerville and Ikea Long finished in fifth place (4:03.95).
 
Ballard finished in third place during the women’s 60m hurdles (8.78), Amber Brooks finished in fourth during the women’s 1 mile (5:19.39) as well as the women’s distance medley relay team consisting of Dreanna Wallace, Long, Taisha Parkins and Brooks (13:11.22), and Houston finished in fifth place during the women’s 400m dash (59.10).
 
The NCCU men’s and women’s indoor track & field teams will return to action on Jan. 27-28 at the UNC Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C.
