Eagles welcome Radford to the Nest

www.NCCUEaglePride.com) – The North Carolina Central University volleyball team is set to host their final match of the three-match home stand welcoming the Highlanders of Radford University on Tuesday, Sept. 27 at 7:00 p.m. in the McDougald-McLendon Gymnasium.
 
To support the Eagles, fans are asked to wear all gray for the “Gray Matters Night.”
 
NCCU (1-12) hosts Radford (4-9) following a three-set sweep of North Carolina A&T State University on Thursday, Sept. 22 in McDougald-McLendon Gymnasium.
 
This season, the maroon and gray is led by freshman Dayanna Arrufat and sophomores Jzima-Malaki Kalao and Kalin Russell. Arrufat paces NCCU in kills with 104 kills on the season for an average of 2.42 kills per set. Kalao leads the Eagles in assists (215), service aces (13) and digs (79), while Russell guides the blocking campaign with 33 total blocks this year.
 
Collectively, the mighty maroon has amassed 397 kills, 363 assists, 60 service aces, 389 digs and 66 total blocks.
 
Four student-athletes pilot the Highlanders: Rachel Wiechecki, Christine Beckham, Rachel Brummitt and Carly Fleming. Wiechecki paces the offense with 102 kills this season and averaging 1.85 kills per set, while she and Brummitt lead in service aces with 16 apiece. Beckham directs the offense with 244 assists this season. Defensively, Brummitt has collected 273 digs this season, while Fleming has amassed 47 blocks.
 
As a unit, Radford has collected 625 kills, 582 assists, 74 service aces, 726 digs and 111 total blocks.
 
Tuesday’s matchup wraps up the three-match home stand. The Eagles conclude the month with the Maryland Eastern Shore Tournament on Sept. 30-Oct. 1 in Princess Anne, Md.
