NCCU VOLLEYBALL SET FOR FIRST MEAC COMPETITION ON FRIDAY

Eagles welcome N.C. A&T to the Nest

DURHAM, N.C. (www.NCCUEaglePride.com) – The North Carolina Central University volleyball team is set to host its first Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference match on Friday, Sept. 23 at 7:00 p.m., the Aggies of North Carolina A&T State University in the McDougald-McLendon Gym.
 
To support the Eagles to their first MEAC and season victory, NCCU volleyball fans are asked to wear T-shirts with Eagles on them in support of “Feathers versus Fur” night.
 
The epic MEAC battle will be NCCU’s first home volleyball match to be video streamed live. Fans can visit the official NCCU athletics website www.NCCUEaglePride.comfor the link.
 
NCCU (0-12) hosts North Carolina A&T (0-15) following a three-set loss to UNC Asheville on Tuesday, Sept. 20 in McDougald-McLendon Gymnasium.
 
This season, the maroon and gray is led by freshman Dayanna Arrufat and sophomores Jzima-Malaki Kalao and Kalin Russell. Arrufat paces NCCU in kills with 98 kills on the season for an average of 2.45 kills per set. Kalao leads the Eagles in assists (189), service aces (11) and digs (76), while Russell guides the blocking campaign with 32 total blocks this year.
 
Collectively, the mighty maroon has amassed 362 kills, 332 assists, 46 service aces, 364 digs and 61 total blocks.
 
Four student-athletes pilot the Aggies: Jenea Daniels, Chelsea Fox, Murphye Williams and Andrea Evens. Daniels leads the offense with 70 kills this season and averaging 1.56 kills per set, while pacing the digs at 79. Fox commands the offense with 183 assists on the year. Williams and Fox direct the serving game by amassing 11 service aces each, as Evans has collected 23 blocks this season.
 
As a unit, North Carolina A&T has collected 231 kills, 208 assists, 41 service aces, 373 digs and 60 total blocks.
 
Friday’s matchup marks the second match of a three-match home stand. Following the Eagles versus the Aggies contest, NCCU will host Radford on Tuesday, Sept. 27 at 7:00 p.m.
