NCCU VOLLEYBALL HOSTS UNC ASHEVILLE ON TUESDAY

Eagle Fans Are Asked to “Make it Maroon”

DURHAM, N.C. (www.NCCUEaglePride.com) – The North Carolina Central University volleyball team looks to snap a 10-game losing streak on Tuesday, Sept. 20 as they host the Bulldogs of UNC Asheville (Big South) in the McDougald-McLendon Gym at 7:00 p.m.
 
Eagle fans are asked to wear maroon T-shirts to support the squad to their first victory.
 
NCCU (0-10) hosts the Bulldogs following a three-set loss to Campbell on Saturday, Sept. 17 during the Elon Phoenix Classic in Elon, N.C., while UNCA (5-6) enters the nest following a four-set loss to Western Carolina on Sept. 13.
 
This season, the maroon and grey is led by freshman Dayanna Arrufat and sophomores Jzima-Malaki Kalao and Kalin Russell. Arrufat paces NCCU in kills with 90 kills on the season for an average of 2.43 kills per set. Kalao leads the Eagles in assists (167), service aces (11) and digs (72), while Russell guides the blocking campaign with 28 total blocks this year.
 
Collectively, the mighty maroon have amassed 332 kills, 305 assists, 43 service aces, 338 digs and 53 total blocks.
 
Five student-athletes pilot the Bulldogs; Cindi Miller, Hallie Morse, Alex Stewart, Anna Foster and Jaimie Dorfman. Miller leads the offense with 141 kills this season and averaging 3.42 kills per set, while Morse has distributed 348 assists this year. Defensively, Stewart has dug 195 opponents’ attacks, while Moore has accumulated 24 total blocks. Dorfman paces the serving game with 12 service aces.
 
As a unit, UNCA has collected 473 kills, 434 assists, 51 service aces, 595 digs and 55.5 total blocks.
 
Tuesday’s matchup marks the beginning of a three-match homestand. Following the Eagles versus the Bulldogs contest, NCCU will host North Carolina A&T on Friday, Sept. 23 and Radford on Tuesday, Sept. 27. Both matches are slated to begin at 7:00 p.m.
