Box Score 3 NCCU at South Carolina State: Game 1 / Game 2 / Game 3
ORANGEBURG, S.C. (www.NCCUEaglePride.com) – In their last road game of the season, the Lady Eagles of North Carolina Central University obtained one win in the three-game weekend series against the Lady Bulldogs of South Carolina State in Orangeburg, S.C. on April 30- May 1.
In the weekend series, Amada Bullock led the maroon and grey with two runs and five hits.
The Lady Eagles began the weekend with their 5-4 victory of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference foes.
Bullock, who led the offense, slugged three hits seizing two runs. Cember Carmichael added two RBIs to the contest along with one run and two hits. Regina Diaz brought home one runner and whacked one hit. Collectively, NCCU obtained eight hits and three RBIs.
Kayla McPeek pitched a complete game for the Lady Eagles. In seven innings of play, McPeek faced 31 batters, striking out one batter and walking two, while allowing eight hits and four runs.
South Carolina State’s offense was led by LaTavia Riley with one run and two hits, Kelsey Grochow who was 1-for-2 and Sonya Giles who obtained two RBIs with one hit.
Raven Johnson and Vianney Gomez held down the circle for the Lady Bulldogs. Pitching 3.1 innings against 16 batters, Johnson began on the mound. She struck out two batters, while permitting five hits and three runs. With Gomez in the circle, the Lady Eagles managed three hits and two runs, striking out one batter and walking one another.
In game two of the Saturday afternoon doubleheader, NCCU fell 3-2.
Carmichael and Nadia Jefferies obtained one run apiece for NCCU. Bullock and Diaz continued their success while at bat with two hits each.
Shamika Chavis-Hodge and Kayla McPeek split duties at the mound. Chavis-Hodge began on the circle for the mighty maroon pitching two innings, during which time she allowed three hits and three runs, while walking two batters. McPeek returned to the mound for four innings play, against 15 batters she permitted three hits and walked one SCSU batter.
Three Lady Bulldogs reached home plate during game two. Sonya Giles, Tonya Giles and Shannon Baity each seized a run. Arzine Lee led the RBIs with two.
Johnson and Gomez shared time in the circle again. Johnson faced 16 batters, allowing four hits and one run, while Gomez threw to 11 batters permitting three hits, one run and striking out two NCCU batters.
The two teams returned to action on Sunday, May 1 for a single-game matchup with South Carolina State taking the win 5-1.
Andrea Searls obtained the Lady Eagles one run of the day and slugged one hit. Bullock remained consistent with her final hit of the series.
McPeek pitched her second complete game of the weekend for NCCU. In six innings, McPeek struck out three SCSU batters, allowed seven hits and five runs.
Tonya Giles paced the Lady Bulldogs runs with two, as Baity, Lee and Grochow each reached home once. Tonya Giles and Lee each obtained an RBI.
Gomez was selected to maintain the mound for game three. Against 26 batters, Gomez allowed four hits, one run and walked five batters.
The Lady Eagles conclude the 2011 season with a three-game weekend series at home against Norfolk State on May 7-8 at Thomas Brooks Park in Cary, N.C. Senior Ashanti Stroud will be honored during the contest for her four years of dedication to softball program.
