CARY, N.C. (Thomas Brooks Park) –The Lady Eagles of North Carolina Central University concluded a three-game home stretch against the Lady Rattlers of Florida A&M on Sunday, April 3 with three losses at Thomas Brooks Park in Cary, N.C.
NCCU began the three-game stint with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 2. The Lady Eagles ended game one with a 21-1 loss and game two with an 11-1.
While the Lady Eagles reached home plate once, five student-athletes slugged five hits: Whitney Boykin, Andrea Searls, Mae’Risha Watts, Regina Diaz and Nadia Moreta.
NCCU’s Aurora Baker and Shamika Chavis-Hodge hit the mound in game one, Baker began in the circle. In 2.2 innings, Baker allowed four hits and six runs, while walking five batters and committing one error. Chavis-Hodge relieved Baker in the top of the third. In 2.1 innings Chavis-Hodge permitted 12 hits and 15 runs, as she walked three batters.
To seize a 21-run win, the Lady Rattlers slugged hits in all five innings and monopolized on five NCCU errors. Britany Doty led the Florida foes with three runs, three hits and two runners batted in on four times at bat. Erika Garcia captured four runs, three hits and two RBIs at her three times at bat.
Jennifer Lindsey maintained the mound during all five innings of play. The Lady Rattlers pitcher allowed five hits and one run.
The second game of the afternoon, the Lady Eagles were able to slug five hits, while decreasing the Lady Rattlers runs to 11. Nadia Jefferies went 2-for-2 at the plate with an RBI. Ashanti Stroud, Cember Carmichael and Watts mixed into the hitting game with one run apiece.
Kayla McPeek pitched a complete game for NCCU. McPeek allowed 13 hits and 11 runs, while walking two batters.
Jasmin Donaldson made a large contribution to FAMU’s eight RBIs and 13 hits with two runs, two hits and four RBIs. Tenisha Dixon knocked in three hits and amassed two RBIs. Tera Gainer rounded out the Lady Rattlers RBI game going 2-for-2.
Whitney Robinson pitched for FAMU in game two. In five innings, Robinson allowed five runs and one hit, as she permitted two walks and one error concluding the day.
The Lady Eagles and the Lady Rattlers met for the final time on the weekend on Sunday, April 3, the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference opponent obtained a 10-1 win. NCCU combined five hits on the afternoon, while FAMU amassed 17 hits and seven RBIs.
Jefferies continue to slug for the Lady Eagles with one hit, along with Amanda Bullock and Nadia Moreta obtaining one hit apiece.
NCCU’s Kayla McPeek continued pitching for the weekend with five innings of play.
Gainer added two RBIs to her stats and two runs. Erika Garcia contributed to the seven total RBIs with two.
Ashleigh Minter made her debut on the weekend for the Lady Rattlers.
The Lady Eagles drop to 4-24, while Florida A&M advances to 17-18 on the season.
