DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (www.NCCUEaglePride.com) – The North Carolina Central University softball team wrapped up their three-game series against Bethune-Cookman on Sunday, April 17 with a 2-1 loss to the Lady Wildcats in Daytona Beach, Fla.
Sophomore Nadia Jefferies led the Lady Eagles with one run and one hit in the matchup. Freshman Whitney Boykin whacked two hits against B-CU, while NCCU collectively amassed five hits. Freshman Cember Carmichael and junior Andrea Searls slugged one hit apiece.
Defensively, the mighty maroon collected 18 putouts. Sophomore Mae’Risha Watts led with four putouts, Carmichael and Jefferies gathers three apiece and freshman Regina Diaz finished with two.
Sophomore Kayla McPeek pitched a complete game for the Lady Eagles. McPeek faced 29 batters, walking two, while permitting seven hits and two runs.
Ashton Hinds and Allison Garcia continued their strong play from the Saturday by obtaining one run each. Simone Ceasar guided the hitting efforts for the Lady Wildcats with three hits. Cesley Tafoya and Sabrina Ferguson acquired one RBI apiece.
Garcia pitched 7.0 innings for B-CU. In her time on the mound, Garcia struck out four batters and walked one, while allowing NCCU’s five runs and one hit.
The Lady Eagles return to action on Wednesday, April 20 battling the Camels of Campbell University in Buies Creek, N.C., at 6 p.m.
