GREENSBORO, N.C. (www.NCCUEaglePride.com) – In their second matchup of the season, the Eagles of North Carolina Central University seized another three-set (25-22, 25-13, 25-14) win over the Aggies of North Carolina A&T State University on Sunday, Oct. 30 at the Corbett Sports Center in Greensboro, N.C.
Sunday’s contest advances NCCU to 2-0 over N.C. A&T this season, 3-21 overall and 3-3 in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play.
After three-sets of play, freshman and senior duo Dayanna Arrufat and Shantel Moore led the offensive effort with Arrufat tallying 14 kills and Moore gathering 10 kills. Sophomore Jzima-Malaki Kalao directed the offense with 30 assists in the win. Senior Emanuelle Santos continues to pivotal force the mighty maroon, in this match Santos led in digs with nine, while Arrufat gathered one solo block.
To clutch the three-set win, NCCU turned 82 attempts into 47 kills on 14 errors, served seven service aces, dug 32 Aggie attempts and collected two team blocks.
Jenae Daniels was the lone Aggie to obtain double-figure kills with 10, while Chelsea Fox circulated 18 assists. Fox also led the defense with five digs, as Andrea Evans assisted on three blocks and collected two solo blocks.
Despite taking 75 attempts, the Aggies could only gather 25 kills on 15 errors, while amassing 21 assists and 20 digs. N.C. A&T was able to overpower NCCU in blocks gathering five team blocks to the Eagles’ two.
Following Sunday’s victory, the maroon and gray will host three home matches beginning with a Wednesday, Nov. 2 match against USC Upstate at 7:00 p.m., followed by a Friday, Nov. 4 contest against Bethune-Cookman also at 7:00 p.m., and concluded with a 3:00 p.m. match on Sunday, Nov. 6 against Florida A&M.
