NCCU VOLLEYBALL WELCOMES SOUTH CAROLINA STATE TO THE NEST

Eagles Look for Second Consecutive Win

DURHAM, N.C. (www.NCCUEaglePride.com) – The North Carolina Central University volleyball team is set to host South Carolina State, who are the defending 2011 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Champions, on Sunday, Oct. 16 at 3:00 p.m. in McDougald-McLendon Gymnasium.

The Eagles (2-20) return to action following a three-set (25-14, 25-21, 25-15) victory over the Lady Tigers of Savannah State on Friday, Oct. 14 in Durham, N.C.  Senior Emanuelle Santos led the Eagles with her fourth double-double outing of the season, with 14 kills and 16 digs.

This season, the Eagles are led by freshman Dayanna Arrufat, sophomores Jzima-Malaki Kalao and Kalin Russell and senior Tasha-Gaye Richards.  Arrufat paces NCCU in kills with 180 kills on the season for an average of 2.54 kills per set, while leading in digs with 127.  Kalao leads the maroon and gray in assists with 333, while Russell guides the blocking campaign with 38 total blocks this year.  Richards commands the serving game with 18 service aces on the season.

Collectively, the mighty maroon have amassed 672 kills, 612 assists, 98 service aces, 699 digs and 98 total blocks.

The Bulldogs (12-11) enter the nest after a three-set (25-19, 25-16, 25-7) win over the Aggies of North Carolina A&T State on Friday, Oct. 14 in Greensboro, N.C.

The Bulldogs’ offense is led by Desire Waller with 283 kills on the season, while Bria Brimmer has delivered 714 assists.  Waller and Shabree Roberson guide the defensive effort with Waller amassing 186 digs and Roberson collecting 76 blocks.

As a unit, South Carolina State has collected 855 kills, 786 assists, 155 service aces, 909 digs and 143 total blocks.

Following Sunday’s contest, the Eagles will take a 14–day break to prepare for the second-half of the MEAC season beginning with a Sunday, Oct. 30 rematch against the Aggies of North Carolina A&T at 3:00 p.m.
