DURHAM, N.C. (www.NCCUEaglePride.com) - The North Carolina Central University men’s and women’s cross country teams conclude the 2011 regular season with their annual NCCU Cross Country Classic, Saturday, Oct.15, at 9 a.m., at the Forest Hills Park in Durham, N.C.
The Eagles will host the Aggies of North Carolina A&T during their final regular-season competition.
During this meet, the men will be running a 5k course beginning at 9 a.m., followed by the women who will run the 3k course.
The NCCU Classic has been the Eagles’ regular-season closer since the early 90’s. NCCU head cross country Michel Lawson originally designed the meet as preparation for the conference meet, and at the conclusion of this season the Eagles will run for their first conference title since the 2006 season.
“We are really using this last meet as a final practice before we head to the MEAC tournament,” said Lawson. “This race will give our student-athletes a chance to sharpen their skills and get mentally and physically prepared to compete in two weeks.”
Saturday’s race marks the final regular-season cross country meet for seniors
Dreanna Wallace of Orlando, Fla., and
Jamar Jones of Philadelphia, Pa.
“Our seniors have had a great season,” said Lawson. “This season will be the first time they are able to compete in a conference tournament, we are all excited to give them that experience before they graduate.”
The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 29 in Princess Anne, Md., and will be hosted by Maryland Eastern Shore. Norfolk State will be defending their 2010 men’s and women’s cross country title during the annual event.
