DID YOU KNOW? Distance runner Katerina Glosova is the most decorated female student-athlete in North Carolina Central University history.
During her unprecedented four-year cross country and track career from 1999-2002, Glosova earned all-conference honors 27 times, won 15 individual conference championships, claimed four all-America citations and captured an NCAA Division II national championship.
In the sport of cross country, Glosova won four straight CIAA individual championship titles, became the first student-athlete from NCCU to qualify for the NCAA national championships in cross country after a third place individual performance at the 1999 NCAA Division II Southeast Women's Regional, and was named the 2000 NCAA Division II Southeast Region Female Cross Country Athlete of the Year after winning the regional championship.
Her success on the track included three consecutive conference crowns in both the 1500 and 3000-meter runs, along with a national championship title in the NCAA Division II indoor 800m run.
And while her athletic accolades place Glosova in a league of her own, she also excelled in the classroom. She was selected to the CIAA Commissioner’s All-Academic First Team for three years in a row, received the CIAA Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year award as a senior, earned the NCAA Division II Conference Commissioners Association Women’s South Atlantic Region Scholar-Athlete of the Year award in consecutive years, and was recognized as an Academic All-American by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
A native of the Czech Republic, Glosova capped her extraordinary NCCU career on Dec. 13, 2002, graduating Summa Cum Laude with a degree in hospitality and tourism administration.
As part of North Carolina Central University's Centennial celebration, the NCCU Department of Athletics will post sports history facts from the institution's first 100 years to its official web site, www.NCCUEaglePride.com, every week during the year-long observance.
